Job Assistance

  • Goodwill Career Center
    • As stated on their website, Goodwill helps people who face various obstacles to employment. The obstacles include lack of work history; physical, mental and emotional disabilities; limited education; language barriers; criminal background; dependency on public assistance; corporate downsizing and other challenges that stand in the way to employment. Our services meet the training and placement services available to those who need them. The job center facilities are right next to the sales floor and more extensive than one might think. The center offers help with job search skills and coaches, access to computers and printers, job announcements and fairs, ongoing employment coaches once someone gets a job, and job training in skills needed in the local area. In Athens, that means welding, supply chain management, maintenance technician, forklift, and retail customer service programs. Many of the people working in the donation center are people gaining work skills though the job center. Finally, there are programs and services for what they call “priority populations” — veterans, individuals with disabilities, women in non-traditional occupations, Youth Employment Services, and DFACS SNAP works.
