Athens, GA – On Saturday, February 24th, 2024, the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) hosted the first annual “Athens Run with Ahmaud – Walk for Justice” in honor and memory of Ahmaud Arbery. The winners of the 2.23 mile race were Clayton Harrington (runner) and Lauren Knowlton (walker)!
Overall, we raised over $300 towards The Ahmaud Arbery Foundation, which provides mental health resources for Black boys, and the AADM End School To Prison Pipeline program, which provides free mentorship to at-risk students between 13-16 years old.
After the run/walk, participants enjoyed refreshments while watching a documentary about Ahmaud and the impact his case had on hate crimes & citizen arrest legislation in Georgia.
Thank you to all of our racers, volunteers, and donors for making this first annual race in honor of Ahmaud so special! We hope to see everyone back next year!
