AADM hosts mayoral forum to discuss community issues and the future of Athens
Athens, Ga – The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is excited to host its first ever Athens Mayoral Forum on March 12 at Cine 234 W. Hancock Ave Athens, Ga.. The forum is completely free to attend and will kick off at 6 pm with a networking session before all mayoral candidates take the stage to answer questions about their plans to address local issues. Afterward, a planned community building exercise will take place.
As of this writing, Kelly Girtz, Richie Knight, Ian Michael Casey, Antwan Stephens, Harry Sims, and Samuel Thomas are confirmed to speak. AADM reached out to all mayoral candidates and welcomes others that qualify. Guests can expect the discussion to center around their action plans to address poverty in Athens, quality of life, diversity and community inclusion.
“As a resident of Athens for almost 40 years, I have seen a lot of changes in the community. Over last five years, many of the changes I’ve seen, I perceive as negative. This is why I chose to attempt to use this race, as an attempt to elevate the conversation. Athens needs jobs, jobs that will raise almost half of our city’s citizen’s out of poverty” candidate Ian Michael Casey said.
AADM hopes to facilitate a conversation that will allow Athenians to make informed choices while strictly remaining an unbiased party. While the event is free, seating will be limited.
