Will the Mayor and Commission vote Yes against Discrimination and approve an Athens Civil Rights Committee?
On Tuesday November 1st, the final decision will be made. Prior to the Mayor and Commission voting on the “alcohol admittance ordinance” or the possible establishment of Athens Civil Rights Committee, the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement will once again canvass the streets of downtown Athens to encourage business owners to stand in solidarity against discrimination by posting a sticker on their door or window symbolizing that everyone is welcomed.
The “Athens United Against Discrimination” sticker campaign is an ongoing city wide campaign. Business owners are encouraged to keep stickers up throughout the year and the Athens Anti-Discrimination will encourage local citizens and visitors to shop with those business that welcome everyone regardless of race, color, religion, sex, disability, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin or age.
AADM members and volunteers will meet at UGA Arch 5 pm and begin canvassing the streets of downtown, Athens. Then meet at fellow community leaders and actvist at Athens City Hall for the Mayor and Commission voting session 7pm.
