AADM New Leadership and Programs

The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) would like to welcome aboard our new Vice President, Mykeisha Ross, who will continue to lead the movement in 2020, while Mokah Jasmine Johnson, co-founder, and President of Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, steps aside to explore public office. Mykiesha Ross is an Athens native and has been a member of AADM since 2018. Mokah will continue to oversee the End School to Prison Pipeline Program and Teen Social ThJustice after school club, while the AADM Board carries the torch. Mokah states, “In order for any movement to stay alive you must cultivate future leaders and encourage others to stand with you. We have a passionate team”.

In 2020, the AADM team will continue doing good work by providing court-ordered community service to ages 16-25 in an effort to reduce recidivism rates and the ongoing issue of mass incarceration. In addition the AADM team will continue to campaign against discrimination and provide a series of community discussions and “Know Your Rights” workshops.

Through activism and collaboration, AADM has successfully advocated for the ACC government to establish cash bail reform, an anti-discrimination ordinance against bars, the (recent) Inclusion Office, and a community police review board in progress. Together “We’ve brought awareness to the school-to-prison pipeline, the importance of black entrepreneurship, and the important work of helping to stimulate culture, inclusion and economic opportunity in downtown Athens (Mokah Jasmine-Johnson)”.

The AADM Board will close out the year by hosting our 2nd Annual Social Justice Awards and Holiday Party December 2019, more details coming soon. For more information, contact the AADM Board at athensantidiscrimination@gmail.com or call 706-389-4129.
