AADM supports the #neveragainmovement and will take ten minority/African American students ages (13-17) to Washington DC to participate in March For Our Lives and to stand in solidarity with the students of Marjory Stoneman HS on March 24th. A local march will be hosted by UGA Students, Moms Demand Action, and Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement 1 pm at UGA Arch.
AADM Teen Social Justice and End School To Prison Pipeline program are two initiatives designed to help cultivate future leaders, advocate for and empower underserved youth. And this a great opportunity to inspire our children to get involved and speak out against issues that negatively impact their community such as gun violence. We’re working to raise funds for this trip and we need your support.
Also on March 14th, AADM will have a follow discussion and provide a platform for teachers and students to be vocal after the nationwide walk-out. The meeting starts 6 pm at Athens Clarke County Library.
What can you do now to make a difference?
1.We encourage residents to support the #neveragainmovement and the students from Marjory Stoneman HS.
2. We encourage you to hold to your elected officials accountable to create laws that will keep our school safe from gun violence
3. We encourage you to #pushback against teachers having guns in the classroom as a solution and to campaign for more social workers, psychologist, and restorative justice professionals on campus, smaller classrooms, and school safety
