Teach the Truth Thursdays

Athens, GA. – The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) is holding an 8-Week Series of Educational classes designed to teach K-16 Educators how to teach about Racism, Slavery, and other challenging topics in Georgia classrooms.

It is a powerful initiative designed to bolster and support teaching the truth about American History in our classrooms.

We will have an amazing mix of University of Georgia professors, local High School Teachers, and local Civil Rights Activists who will be teaching these classes.  They will be held every Thursday 5 PM – 7 PM at the AADM Justice Center starting October 7th, 2021. 

Due to COVID, each T3 Thursdays event will also be LIVESTREAMED. Guest speakers include Dr. Tianna Dowie-Chin, UGA professor, Anthony Downer, Frederick Douglass High School Social Studies Teacher, Dr. Jim Garrett, UGA professor, Beth Mendenhall, Cedar Shoals High School Social Studies Teacher, Damaris Dunn, UGA PhD Student, Chaplain Cole Knapper, local Civil Rights Activist, National Action Network, Amelia H. Wheeler, UGA PhD Student,.We will be using the Zinn Education Project curriculum, along with original facilitator to teach Richard Rothstein’s “Color of Law” class: Week #7: How Redlines Built White Wealth.
