Call of Action: removal of Athens Confederate monument

Athens, Ga – Join the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement at City Hall on October 3 to fight for the removal of the Confederate monument on Broad Street. Since the enormous turnout at “Charlotesville: A Response from Athens” in August, AADM’s followed local and national discussions about the place of Confederate monuments in the South given its history and persistent, nasty racial connotations.

The united front before the mayor and commission is the next step in a new campaign to relocate the monument out of Downtown Athens to the Oconee Hill Cemetery where it could function as a memorial. The agenda session begins at 6 pm at City Hall on College Ave.
